Craft for Shelters Items Ready to be Delivered!

We received all of our pet bowls last night glazed and fired with love thanks to iLovetoCreate! Each pet bowl was painted by a local volunteer at our Craft for Shelters event held on July 20th and we are oh so proud.

We are now ready to start dropping off all of our crafted items to the local shelters.  Click here to see photos of the other items we made.

We have a box ready for 10 local shelters.  Sebastian and I are feeling very grateful and excited today for all of our furry relatives out there waiting for homes.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the success of National Craft for your Local Shelters Day 2013!

How to Throw a Successful Craft Party for NCLSD

Yay, we are super excited it's time for round two!  Wow how time flies.  I'll be posting daily about this event and what you can do to help.  You can also read last year's article about NCLSD over at Pet360 or visit the Craft for Shelters tab on this blog.

Craft parties are so much fun and it always amazes me how many people join in when it's for a good cause.  Here are some things to think about when planning yours.

1.  Decide on a shelter (or two) to donate to - contact them and make sure they want to receive your donation.

2.  What will you make?  If you are not sure what to make, ask your shelter of choice what it is they could use the most - besides money and food of course.

3.  Supplies.  What materials will you need?  Utilize what you know you are great at and make sure your "game plan" is realistic.  Do you need a pattern?  How long does it take to make one of your items?  Etc.  If you decide on "adopt me" items like vests or bandanas, make them bright and eye-catching.

4.  Set a date and organize a craft night with your crafty friends just for this project.

5. Create stations. For example, a few people can cut fabric while others sew pieces together.

6.  Don't forget the cats and other animals in shelters.  Cats could use bandanas for adoptable pictures and to help attract attention.

If you have questions or suggestions, leave a comment.  We'd love to hear from you!
