Giving back In a "crafty" Kinda Way

Sebastian and I spent the day at our friend's house making these vests a few weeks ago.  These are vests the dogs can wear as they are being walked around at events or adoption centers.  The "Adopt Me" message lets everyone know they are looking for a home.

We were able to get 8 vests done in 4 different sizes to donate to two local shelters.

If you are looking for crafty ways to give back and you like this idea, here is the pattern we used:

This pattern is super easy to follow and I highly recommend it!  The only thing I didn't like was the size scale.  The largest size in this pattern (a medium) was still too small for dogs like Sebastian (he's only 10 pounds!).  But no worries...I just made up my own larger "medium" after creating the other sizes.

What are some ways you have donated or thought of donating to local shelters using your creative skills?  Share with us!

Sebastian is a man of looks and compassion!

This is so great that you guys did this. It really helps these guys get noticed out in public at adoption events, making them more likely to be adopted. We foster and volunteer with our local Golden rescue and love to do it. The dogs repay you tenfold!

Those are amazing and i hope- super felpful! I feel sorry for the little ones who are abandoned.. I visit my local shelter too, and i love to spend time in there. In every May i go with a few shelter dog to a non-official dog show.(for people to see how amazing shelter dogs really are, and in few times shelter dogs have got some really good results!)
Thank you for sharing this-i got some idea from here. :)

(I must say i was amazed how much little dogs are abandoned in your shelter... In Estonia mainly abandoned dogs are big, above the knee high. I hope they all will get good homes!!)

Being a caregiver for the Carthage MO Humane Society, I thank you so very much! I know your local shelters REALLY appreciate it.
It doesn't surprise me at all that you've done this for these babies! Your love and relationship with Sebastian has warmed my heart for the past year or so.
I hope your readers will be encourage to go to their local shelters and give. NOT money but just time; petting, walking and talking. Like said above, what you get back is tenfold.

Just doing a little blog hopping and found you - love the idea about Adopt Me and I do have that pattern in my collection.

I started giving back to rescue groups in the US and Canada by making Bandannas for Rescued Paws - I've made and donated about 1,500+ so far - these are made from happy, bright and fun fabrics and are used by rescues when showing the dog for adoption, but what I like is the dog will go to his fur-ever home wearing one - I know on some level they must feel good. The rescues can also sell the bandannas which are reversable to raise money for their group. It's up to them but I supply enough all around.

I've also made fleece coats for rescues in NE as well as a few little fleece sleeping bags for rescues that are always cold due to being sick.

Come by and visit my blog at:

All the best,
Katie
